Rental houses Assen built by municipality

The town Assen is going to build rental houses in Assen herself. The capital of Drenthe wants that way the housing market moving again and can therefore self-plot for the lost rental. That said Councillor Albert Smit (PvdA) Thursday. Assen is the first municipality in the Netherlands that in this way the market for rental housing moves.

It is not yet known how many apartments in Assen to build. It is intended that this be funded from the municipal reserves.
Smith thinks that the municipality can build cheaper rental housing than other parties: under 100,000 euros. The housing may be smaller and more sober executed. According to the councilor contractors are "very interested" in the plans.
